Out of the frying pan…

Location:  Shadow Vault, Icecrown

Assembled in the gloomy halls of the Shadow Vault, Pleiadia had been wondering what Mograine was up to.  A few of the Ebon Blade had been gathered to discuss something of importance, and she was on their list.  Though alive now, she was still counted amongst them as a charter member, an exalted charter member to be accurate.

She looked over to see notable Knights  amongst the crowd gathered.  Some were clearly not amused that they were taken away from their duties and/or extracurricular activities.

“We have a mission before us,” started Baron Sliver. “Some of you must infiltrate Icecrown Citadel and come back with intelligence about the disposition of their forces.  Seeing as this is an elite mission, we need an elite commander who knows these matters well.”

Pleiadia was wondering if her name was coming up very soon, since this was her area of expertise.  She wouldn’t have been surprised if it was.  Baron Sliver looked directly at her.

“Sentinel-Captain Moonstriker, you will lead this team.”

She made a heavy sigh and said the only thing that made any sense at the time.  She was a soldier, but this did take her away from her family.  If it was important enough to bring to her in, though…

“Very well, Baron Sliver, but I want to choose who goes with me,” she plainly stated. “The last time I was in a group that was selected at random was not a pretty ending.  When I hand picked my team, things got better.”

“The mission is pretty straight forward.  You need to gather intelligence and get it back to us, while still in one piece.”

She nodded; that was the whole idea of an elite scout unit after all, snoop and scoot.

Pleiadia looked at her candidates carefully.  They were told to treat her as if she was the Highlord himself, so that took uncertainty out of the equation handily.  She had to choose the strongest ones, the smartest ones, as a consequence of such simplicity.  Looking past the throng, she noted four of her cursed sisters, each one itching for some action.  Normally, she would mix up races in her selections because of a certain cohesion that was quite entertaining, but this time was deadly serious, and it was a one time only deal.  She motioned to those four first.

“Come, sisters.  It’s time to be Sentinels again,” Pleiaidia gently told them.

They perked up; they thought they were lost.  Someone had acknowledged that they were Sentinels still, and they took the chance immediately.  Pleiadia looked around for two more.  Seven people was good enough for this job.  She spotted two orcs, and her past experience told her how tough they could be when things got bad.

“Grus, care to join us?  And your friend as well?”

“It would be an honor,” Grus snickered.

“Baron Sliver, I have my team.  We shall depart immediately.”

Baron Sliver knew, as she did, that this was not going to be easy, but if they needed intelligence badly, they had to have it.  The Knights of the Ebon Blade were still a part of this strike force, and they wanted to be sure that they had everything scoped out before the initial attacks began.  The team made its way into the sky toward the courtyard to begin insertion.
